Blackletter and medieval

Blackletter fonts, also known as Gothic or Fraktur fonts, are a type of calligraphic script that originated in Europe during the medieval period. They are characterized by their intricate, highly decorative, and angular letterforms that are often embellished with serifs, sharp angles, and decorative flourishes.

Historically, Blackletter fonts were widely used for printing books, manuscripts, and documents in Europe, particularly in Germany and other German-speaking countries, from the 12th to the 20th century. They were also used for printing newspapers, posters, and other forms of printed media.

Today, Blackletter fonts are often associated with a sense of tradition, history, and elegance, and are commonly used for logos, book covers, and other design projects that require a touch of old-world charm. However, due to their ornate and intricate design, they are not always easy to read, and are not as widely used as other more modern fonts.

Some popular examples of Blackletter fonts include the Old English, Textura, and Fraktur styles, each with its own unique variations and sub-styles.
